Nintendo alongside Illumination unveiled the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
The follow-up to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will propel Mario to the distant reaches of the galaxy. Along the way, he discovers a different royal figure and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
Similar to the games from the Wii period that serve as its inspiration, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. Throughout his extensive trek, he will reunite with some familiar faces, including the Luma, a popular character from the first movie.
But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who apparently commands metallic abilities. Worth mentioning, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also features references to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The film will feature once again of the primary vocal talent, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. It was announced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release near the four-decade milestone of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 promises to be a major period for Mario and his allies.
The company has a set of three fresh titles officially announced for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
